The Mid North Coast of New
South Wales encompasses the towns of Wauchope, Telegraph Point and
Rollands Plains, Laurieton, Camden Haven, Kendall and Comboyne, Port
Macquarie, Lake Cathie, Kempsey and Crescent Head, Grassy Head, and
South West Rocks, Stuarts Point and Gladstone.
Approximately 5 hours from Sydney the region
is vibrant and fast growing. The Hasting Valley has one of the best
climates in Australia, over 13 golden beaches, National Parks and lots
of history.
Sea Acres is a spectacular coastal rainforest
with a 1.3km boardwalk running through its middle. There are guided
tours and an enviro-theatre. Other attractions are the Port Macquarie
Museum and Pilots Boathouse Museum. There's an historic cemetery
adjoins Kooloonbung Creek Reserve with its boardwalks and bird viewing
platforms. Historic buildings include the Courthouse and many churches.
Timbertown at Wauchope offers a great day out for the whole family and
is only 25 minute drive from Port Macquarie. Entry is free and you can
see bullock team demonstrations, whipcracking, and lolly making as well
as take a steam train ride.
Winelovers will be right at home at
Cassegrain Winery where a selection of wines can be tasted and purchased
as a souvenir
Restaurants on the waterfront lend a
cosmopolitan feel to the city
affectionately known as "Port". Sunday brunch at the sun drenched
sidewalk cafes are the perfect way to relax. Or you may prefer to take
a drive to South West Rocks, visit the Trial Bay Gaol, and stop for
lunch in the village of Gladstone. You could even converge on Freddos
Famous Pie shop in Frederickton and be tempted by their huge range of
yummy pies and creamy icecreams. .
